[Wiesenthal Center releases hate CD]. The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Toronto released a CD-ROM titled Digital Hate 2002 today, with references to more than 200 Web sites with content based on hate. The disc represents the center's fourth year of collecting sites where surfers can access animated hate games, online enrollment for suicide bombers and other examples of what the center calls »transnational hate and promotion of terror.« The center, based in Los Angeles, used Internet experts there, and in Buenos Aires, Jerusalem, New York, Paris and Toronto to scan about 25,000 sites each month and collect those with hate to add to the disc, which is sent to law enforcement, public officials, educators, parents and the media to help illustrate the scope of the problem. »Those of us who monitor this type of activity have a duty to alert the public as to what's out there,« said Brian Levin, the director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, »because the only way to really eliminate this kind of material is through the disinfectant of sunlight.« [onlinejournalism.com news briefs]
