Kalender im Netz

Dr. Web hat sich die Mühe gemacht und drei freie netzbasierte Kalender einem Kurztest unterzogen: Spongecell, Calendars Net und natürlich den neuen Shooting-Star am Kalender-Himmel, den Google-Kalender. Und er stellt sinnvollerweise auch gleich die (berechtigte) Frage: »Wem vertraue ich? Sensible Daten sollten natürlich sowieso nicht ins Netz gestellt werden, das ist im Business im Zweifel auch eine Haftungsfrage. Aber auch im Privaten bleibt die Grundsatzfrage, wem man seine Daten anvertraut. Es gibt Stimmen, die vor einer immer weiter wachsenden Allwissenheit von Google warnen.« [man bedim len?]

Ich selber nutze den Kalender von Yahoo!, aber nicht, weil er besonders gut ist, sondern weil er schon besonders lange auf dem Markt ist und ich irgend etwas Vernünftiges mit meinem Yahoo!-Account anstellen wollte.

TextMate und das MetaWeblog API

TextMate, der smarte Editor für Mac OS X kann jetzt auch als externer Weblog-Editor fungieren. Er nutzt dazu das MetaWeblog API, das von einer großen Anzahl von Weblog-Tools und Content-Management-Systemen (z.B. Drupal, WordPress, MovableType oder Twoday) unterstützt wird.

Tweaking the Google Calendar

Jon Udell: Google Calendar and its API. »Google's Patrick Chanezon had alerted me to the fact that Joe has added a new authentication scheme to httplib2. Along with HTTP Basic, Digest, and a couple of others, this Python HTTP library will now handle Google-style authentication. That's really the only tricky thing about using Google Calendar's API. Everything else is URLs and Atom entries. There are Java and C# wrappers for this stuff, but I'm having a ball just using Python's interactive mode to explore the Calendar API. Among the things I can easily do: search for entries matching dentist, search for entries after June 10, receive the results of any query as an Atom or RSS feed.« [Daily Python-URL! Neue Skype-Version mit eingebautem Paypal

Sowohl die Telefon-Software Skype ( ) als auch der Internet-Bezahlservice Paypal ( ) gehören dem Auktionshaus eBay ( ). Alle drei Angebote sollen künftig enger miteinander verzahnt werden: In künftigen Skype-Versionen soll es möglich sein, Geld zwischen Nutzern der Software zu übertragen. Dies könnten dann beispielsweise Verkäufer und Käufer bei eBay zur direkten Kommunikation und Geschäftsabwicklung einsetzen. [Netzeitung.de Internet]

Da Skype aber nicht unumstritten ist, erkläre ich es zum »Google des Tages«. Man erfährt dann mehr darüber...

Doch auch die Konkurrenz schläft nicht: Google arbeitet an Bezahlsystem: Die Gerüchte um ein Bezahlsystem von Google verdichten sich. Offenbar plant der Suchdienst, ab 28. Juni Gbuy den Nutzern seines Kleinanzeigenmarktes Google Base anzubieten, um die Bezahlung kleiner Beträge auch ohne Kreditkarte möglich zu machen. Später sollen von Google als vertrauenswürdig eingestufte Händler das Micropayment-System auch außerhalb von Google Base nutzen können. Nach einer kostenlosen Einführungsphase will Google 1,5 bis 2 Prozent des Verkaufspreises einbehalten - eine ähnliche Marge wie bei Konkurrent PayPal. [heise online news]

Software-Update

Die Gummiente (GPL), die bei mir seit Jahr und Tag klaglos ihren Dienst als (S)FTP-Client verrichtet, ist in der Version 2.6 erschienen. Mit der neuen Version, die als Universal Binary vorliegt, steht nun unter anderem auch ein Dashboard-Widget zur Verfügung. Weiterhin blockieren Fehlerdialoge nicht mehr das Programm. Mit Google kann man rechnen

Office-Konkurrenz: Google startet Online-Tabellenkalkulation: Google hat seine erste Online-Tabellenkalkulation gestartet, bietet diese allerdings zunächst nur einer begrenzten Nutzerschar an. Damit können Anwender alle Aufgaben einer herkömmlichen Tabellenkalkulationsapplikation per Webbrowser abwickeln. Mit einem eigenen Online-Kalender hatte Google seinen Angriff auf die Microsoft-Bastion begonnen. Zuvor hatte Google die Online-Textverarbeitung Writely aufgekauft. [Golem.de]

EasyEclipse - mehrsprachige IDE im Paket

EasyEclipse schnürt Eclipse ( ), eine Java Runtime und nützliche Tools zusammen in ein Paket. Raus kommt eine fertige Eclipse Umgebung mit Ruby und Rails Support. Zu den Plugins gehören unter anderem die Ruby Development Tools, RadRails, QuantumDB (Datenbankmanagement) und Subclipse. Aber auch PHP und Python sind mit dabei. Nach Pagemaker und Framemaker nun GoLive

Adobe setzt seine Strategie fort, Konkurrenzprogramme aufzukaufen und dann sterben zu lassen: »Nach einem Statement von Adobes europäischem Marketing-Manager auf der Adobe Live Conference in London wird der Webeditor GoLive eingestellt und durch eine neue Version der ehemaligen Macromedia-Software Dreamweaver ersetzt.« [Mac Essentials - RSS20]

Um GoLive ist es sicher nicht sonderlich schade, obwohl ich die Bedienung immer intuitiver als die von Dreamweaver fand, aber diese Ankündigung läßt Böses für die ehemaligen Macromedia-Produkte Director und Flash befürchten. Zumindest scheint es generell nicht sinnvoll zu sein, Adobe-Produkte (also auch PDF) für langfristige Projekte einzusetzen. Und wissenschaftliche Projekte sind fast immer langfristige Projekte.
